“Love Monk” is a term I coined to describe anyone who chooses to dedicate themselves to love, particularly towards others. They might not always locate their ‘person’ as the world does, but make no mistake. Until then, they will learn how to bring light and joy into the lives of many. I believe love to be a sacred thing, that is not easy to come across nor keep. And may we not feel pressured to love when our hearts know their truths. Love isn’t our enemy, and so when you feel it is true, I only wish you longevity. Thanks to my good friends who allowed me to bring my laptop to the vineyard, and to Marko who gave this a beautiful end.

A friend handed me a note which wrote, “What are you afraid of losing, when nothing in the world actually belongs to you?”. This paradox encouraged me to take up space, to bask in the fact that I am meant to be here. I nudge you to do the same, and to realise a coldness of this world; that it does not anymore reward us simply for being. It is also a gruesome thing to allow another to control your life, your desire, your will and creativity.

This is a brief personal account of the District Six evictions on Searle Street. Taken at Cissie Gool House (CGH) which accommodates close to a staggering 900 people who would have otherwise been evicted and displaced. The purpose of this clip is to raise awareness, to enlighten viewers all over of the first-hand effects of gentrification and spatial apartheid across Cape Town. District Six remains embedded with core history, and the possibility of this erasure for mere profit is a reality we simply cannot and will not see. Save Searle Street.
